Each of Nootz shelf stable smoothies carry a story of terroir, craftsmanship and innovative spirit.

A Note From
Our Founder

Non-natural ingredients and unsustainable farming practices have taken a large toll on our planet's ecosystem. At the current rate, the UN estimates that 95% of our planet's soil would be degraded / unfarmable. Moreover, our standard of living is plummeting because of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, which has tripled since 1975 according to the World Health Organisation. A key culprit is ultra processed foods.

Nootz is the antithesis of these unsustainable practices. Our farmer collective practices regenerative farming methods, with inter-cropping at the forefront of our circular economy. Our product is clean, containing no concentrates, no preservatives and just 3 organic ingredients. Last but not least, we select our coconuts and fruits during peak seasons when farmers face up to 30% post-harvest loss (as per UNIDO estimates) and when the fruit has the best taste — a win-win for the consumer and farmer.

Terroir

Each of our ingredients has a provenance story. For example, our TJC mango cultivar was developed in Sri Lanka through 20 years of agronomy to find a climate adaptive variety for the Sri Lankan dry terrain. It is low in fibre and high in natural vitamins. Our "mauritius" pineapple variety is pending a Geographical Indicator (GI) and was once reserved for the British Royalty because of its perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess. It inter-crops perfectly within coconut plantations in the coconut triangle in Sri Lanka.

Selecting the sapling, intercropping within our regenerative framework and tending to the tree until it bears fruit are the key steps to agronomy that our farmers have mastered. Then, during the processing stage, our coconut collectors, deshellers, peelers and expellers derive the key ingredients in a masterclass of craftsmanship.

Before Nootz, there was no shelf-stable, coconut smoothie. It involved a 2-year R&D process inclusive of food technology scientists from the Netherlands. There were many costly failures. Since the beverage has neither preservatives nor stabilisers, we had to find the right combination of pH, solids and machinery to make the product a reality.

My name is Mallika. I have been in this company for 8 years.

Before I joined this company, I was very poor. With the money I made at Nootz, I was able to build my own house.

When we fall ill, the company health insurance safeguards us. The management is authentic and takes care of us.

It gives me great joy that this factory now employs nearly 70 workers.
